A road trip return journey from Queensland to Western Australia in a Model 3 Tesla

Our Tesla Model 3 normally crouches low to the ground and is unhappy with big lumps and ditches in the road. Not good for dirt road adventuring. It is now about 5 cm higher using a Mountain Pass Performance lift kit, very ably fitting by Andy from AK Autos, Wises Road Maroochydore.

We are all set  with a very small fridge, a 12V lithium iron battery for use away from and within the car, plenty of different charge cables, foldable solar panel (for the 12V) and the most basic of camping gear. We also know we can sleep in the car on our inflatable camping mats!

Constant scrutiny of Covid news didn’t help to allay concerns that perhaps we shouldn’t or couldn’t even leave home. Where would we end up and would we be way laid for days or week? We were also unsure about the best route to take across Queensland to Camooweal. We had done this before in the Tesla last year. The Qld Govt was about to install 17 additional fast chargets throughout Western Qld. The charging landscape was about to change but we weren’t sure how soon. Also, our house was to be occupied by friends while we were away. What if we have to turn for home. Just another consideration!
